eKajaki.pl • Bytowa • the Bytów Lake District • a technical trip, single kayaks only
A kayaking trip on the Bytowa from Bytów to Osieki Bytowskie (14 km) is a wild, demanding route for those who value excitement and technique: fallen trees, 9 natural mini-drops and rapids. Moderately difficult, single kayaks only.
The Bytowa – a left tributary of the Słupia just 29 km long – offers incredible variety in its short course. It starts lazily but quickly speeds up, and the narrow channel forces vigilance and gives huge satisfaction.

On this route the river doesn't let you get bored. Awaiting you are numerous fallen trees, as many as 9 natural water mini-drops, rapids in places, as well as sections where you have to find the best passage between stones or low branches. It's an exceptional technique workout for those who already have a few trips behind them and want something more than lazy drifting with the current.
Due to the shape of the river and the numerous obstacles, the trip is possible only in single kayaks. Short and agile singles let you clear even the more difficult stretches without leaving the kayak – though a few portages over trees may be necessary.
Along the way you'll encounter the ruins of a hydroelectric plant, the remains of the river's former regulation and a unique road bridge on piers made of pine logs, which in the past were tapped for resin. It's a route that combines adventure with local history and technical curiosities.
No. It's a moderately difficult, technical route – with mini-drops, rapids and obstacles. We require experience. For beginners we recommend „My First Time in a Kayak" or „The Gentle Łupawa".
The narrow, winding channel and numerous obstacles require maximum manoeuvrability. Only short singles let you complete this section safely and efficiently.
There are no permanent portages, but at fallen trees a few short portages may be necessary – depending on the water level.
