A kayaking trip on the Skotawa from Jawory to Jamrzyno (12.5 km) is a gem for connoisseurs – a wild, technical, log-jam river in the shadow of the Słupia and Wieprza. A route for the experienced, single kayaks only (whitewater ones preferably).
Seemingly lazy, the Skotawa quickly shows its untamed character: the current thickens, and the channel fills with willows forming a natural labyrinth you have to squeeze through – over, under and around.

The Skotawa is a river for connoisseurs. On the map it looks modest, but the section from Jawory to Jamrzyno is its perfect introduction. From the very first moments the river shows its wild character – seemingly calm, it quickly thickens its current, and sprawling willows almost block out the light, creating a labyrinth you squeeze through with the kayak. It's a route for singles, preferably whitewater kayaks, allowing precise manoeuvring in tight bends.
The Skotawa cuts through almost unurbanised terrain – without bridges, landings or traces of civilisation. It's a river full of deadwood, meanders and changing currents. On the banks and in the water life teems: kingfishers, black storks, white-tailed eagles, and in the current brown trout and the fry of rare fish species. It's a true oasis of wild nature, accessible only from a kayak.
Numerous natural obstacles await on the route: fallen trees, submerged trunks, tight bends and protruding roots. In places the low water level forces you to „read the river" – consciously choosing the deepest current. The technical elements reward precision and composure, and can command respect even from the experienced. This is not a trip for admiring the scenery from a deckchair – you come out of this element tired but happy.
This is only the first section of the Skotawa. The next one, from Jamrzyno to Dębnica Kaszubska, is even more demanding – with longer log jams and denser forest. Jawory–Jamrzyno is an excellent warm-up and an introduction to more serious challenges.
No. It's a wild, log-jam trip requiring technique and reading the water. We require experience. For beginners we recommend „My First Time in a Kayak" or „The Gentle Łupawa".
The tight channel, the willow labyrinth and the numerous obstacles require maximum manoeuvrability. Short whitewater kayaks work best.
In places the water can be low – you have to read the river and choose the deepest current. Fallen trees are cleared with technique or a short portage.
