Section description

This is the essence of log-jam kayaking. Just past the mill in Jamrzyno the Skotawa draws you into its rhythm – full of fallen trees, half-submerged trunks, steep banks and tight, reed-grown meanders. A strong current, frequent stony rapids, a minimal channel width and zero conveniences. There's no trail here – there's a wild river you have to adapt to. From setting off in Jamrzyno you're on your own all the way to Dębnica Kaszubska.

Nature uncensored

The Skotawa flows through wild, forested terrain – dense forests, boggy alder carrs and narrow valleys. On many stretches the river meanders through the forest like a snaking path. You'll smell the earth and the leaves, see signs of beavers, wild boar and otters, and maybe even a white-tailed eagle taking off. When you stop fighting the next log jam for a moment, you'll notice how beautiful and primeval Pomerania can be.

A technical feast – no room for mistakes

Dozens of natural obstacles await on the route (fallen trees, stumps, branches underwater), tight passages requiring precision and a strong current forcing quick reactions. There's one spot with a mandatory portage (at the trout farm) – everything else is your decision: over the top, around or underneath. It's a route that tests technique and mental resilience.

Who is this section of the Skotawa for?

  • exclusively for seasoned paddlers with log-jam experience,
  • a strong current, stony rapids, dozens of obstacles and a tight channel,
  • single kayaks only – full manoeuvrability and control,
  • one spot with a mandatory portage (at the trout farm),
  • wild, untouched nature: beavers, wild boar, otters, a white-tailed eagle.

Useful tips

Is this section for beginners?

No. It's a survival, log-jam route with no margin for error – only for people with real log-jam experience. For beginners we recommend „My First Time in a Kayak" or „The Gentle Łupawa".

How many portages are there?

There's one spot with a mandatory portage (at the trout farm). The remaining obstacles are cleared with technique – over the top, around or underneath – depending on the water level.

Why single kayaks only?

The narrow, winding channel and numerous log jams require maximum manoeuvrability. Only short single kayaks can clear them safely.

What will I see along the way?

The wild, forested valley of the Skotawa, boggy alder carrs and an abundance of animals: signs of beavers, wild boar and otters, and with a bit of luck a white-tailed eagle.
